A self driving car has been a dream of automotive engineers for decades. However, actually building a safe, self driving car seems impossible.
That didn't stop Google from trying. They've been working on a self driving car for a couple of years now and their design is nearly perfected. Google installed their equipment on a few Toyota Priuses (Prium? Prii?) and have successfully driven it several times. Their Prius has even driven itself and its passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco without fault a few times already.
If this self driving Prius has already driven itself on public roads without any problems, this technology could be ready to be sold on production cars in the next few years. Who knows?
Even if this technology never makes it to production, it's still exciting to see what American engineers are capable of. See Google's car in action below:
