Continental ContiSportContact3 best in Auto Express tyre test
Monday, September 13th, 2010
UK magazine Auto Express recently ran its annual tyre test comparing 12 tyres against each other using nine different performance criteria which included dry handling, wet handling, wet cornering, aquaplaning, dry braking, wet braking, noise, rolling resistance, and price.
All 12 tyre brands were tested using the same size fitted to the same car – 225/40 R18 on a Skoda Octavia. This was the publication’s first test using 18″ tyres.
Topping the test results was Continental’s ContiSportContact3 (at 100%) followed closely by the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (0.6% behind), Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, and Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT in that order. Fifth and sixth was a close fight between the Hankook Ventus S1 evo and the Pirelli P Zero.
According to the magazine, “It’s the second win in a row for Continental, this time for the ContiSportContact 3. As with its victory in last year’s test, the German company has designed a tyre that performs well across all our assessments. While others are better in some disciplines, none matches this all-rounder.”
Continental brand manager, Tracey Hyem, said, “This is the third win this year for the ContiSportContact 3 in UK magazine tyre tests. This time the ultra high performance tyre has proved that it is up to the challenge on an 18” front wheel drive car. Again, the testers have commented on the all-round ability of our tyre. Following on from the ContiPremiumContact 2 win with Auto Express last year, it’s an excellent endorsement for our product range.”
